Glebionis coronaria
A broad leafed form of this easily-grown annual vegetable with a milder, yet more savoury flavour and a better texture (to my mind!) than the serrate form. It is more susceptible to wind and insect damage, but is delicious, especially when young and plump.
Use leaves in salads, stir fries and steamboats, and the edible yellow and white flower petals as a garnish. Ornamental and attracts beneficial insects.
Sow spring to autumn in fertile soil in full sun. Space plants 20cm apart, harvest regularly by cutting low on the plant to promote succulent new growth, it will grow up to 80cm tall if not cut back. Save seeds for sprouting or resowing. Self-seeds.
