Scorzonera hispanica

Ancient European root vegetable from the daisy family. Tasty, black-skinned roots with a slight oyster flavour. Sow in spring for harvest the following winter. The roots can be long and easily broken, and bleed and don’t store well when damaged, so it can be easiest to grow in lighter soils or mounds. They hold well in the ground over winter.

Seed doesn't store well, so replant the best few roots for seed saving.
